Access Support Coordination - Recovery Coach What is it?

The Recovery Coach role is an exciting new role rolled out by NDIS that is designed to support and enable people to progress in their journey to recovery with a person-centred approach, while working with informal supports, mainstream support, and formal supports.

A recovery coach is a person with unlimited empathy and optimism and who always maintains an unconditional positive regard for each individual person’s ability to learn and grow. This then enables them to achieve their goals and have their lives head in the direction they want their life to go, with a focus of Recovery.

The Recovery Coach Coordinators have a deep understanding of psychosocial recovery (either lived or learnt), as well as skills and knowledge to assist people to manage their illness and effortlessly navigate life’s stages and changes.

A recovery coach will:

  • Spend time with you, and people important to you, to get to know you and understand your needs.
  • Help you to find out about different services and supports, and how these can help you.
  • Help you get support from mental health services.
  • Help you better understand the NDIS and support you with the NDIS.
